Have you ever been on a Bosslift?

If you hire Guard or Reserves, you've probably at least heard of a Bosslift. It's when you get to go see what your soldier or airman does at their other job.

I'm a volunteer with ESGR, Employer Support of Guard and Reserve. We put on the Bosslift to give you that glimpse.

We had one today at Gowen Field in Boise. Stupidly early in the morning. After breakfast and a briefing, we split into groups.

Those of us on the RED bus (which was blue, btw) were meant to go on a midair refueling mission aboard a KC-135. The mission got scrubbed due to a bird in one of the jets, but we still toured the plane, then off we went to shoot at radar installations in a simulator.

I emceed a panel of Generals, Colonels, and a Chief Warrant Officer. My job was to present audience questions and a handful of my own, like "who's better, Army or Air Force?"

We stuffed earplugs in our heads and rode Black Hawks.

Witnessed a demo of a $75k drone, indoors.

There's even a remote possibility I'll be invited to photograph flipped over tanks and how they right them. If it's a go, it's tomorrow, but so far no word (UPDATE: Didn’t happen! But I’m not losing hope for the future).

A superb, heart warming (and exhausting) day. Got to see my friend Shawn from ASIST suicide intervention class. Shot lots of photos.

Do you employ Guard and Reserves? How has that benefited your company? How do you adapt when they're deployed?

Drop me a comment or reach out if you'd like to be an ESGR volunteer.

And do you think I should go to divinity school so I can get an age waiver?

All the best,
Louis
